This two week primary scheme of work aims to teach children about the silent era of film and melodrama with focus on the musical 'Singin' in the Rain'. The scheme is rich in cross-curricular links but primarily focuses on Literacy and Drama.Through Literacy children will learn about script writing and in Drama lessons children will learn to tell stories through mime. Part of the process is for the children to watch and review the show they have been studying on a school trip and there are also opportunities for children to take part in a drama workshop with the actors in the show and be involved with a question and answer session with the cast after the show. The scheme has been carefully written for teachers who may not have taught drama. Therefore lesson plans and resources are easily accessible and simple to follow. It has been written by primary school teachers with experience in all key stages and subjects and with the understanding of what children need to learn through the National Curriculum. We hope children are excited and motivated in these lessons and that teachers develop confidence to teach drama in the future. From this we hope you will invest in SODS future schemes of work for our upcoming shows - Kiss Me Kate in April 2018 which will have a focus on Shakespeare for Upper KS2 and Peter Pan in November 2018 which will be written for children in KS1.
